Automated Analysis with Variable Periods

Web Analyzer now supports variable periods in saved analyses, eliminating the need to manually update period values each year.

Previous Behaviour

When a work period is defined in the Period-End Closing Date page, it is linked to:

  • The contract repository, for use with the contract validation and invalidation workflow

  • The initialisation of automatic analyses in Web Analyzer

In this configuration, the selected period value — for example, 2023.12 — is fixed. To query a different year, you must update the period value manually. Variable periods have been introduced to address this limitation.

Variable Period in the Period-End Closing Date Dimension

Variable Period Values

The Period-End Closing Date dimension now includes a new type: the variable period. This variable period supports three values:

  • Working_Date — The working period set in the Closing Period page.
  • Closing_Date — The closing period of the fiscal year linked to the working period.
  • Opening_Date — The opening period of the fiscal year linked to the working period.

Using Variable Periods in an Analysis

Instead of assigning fixed values to the Period-End Closing Date dimension, configure the analysis to use variable periods. The analysis will then resolve the correct period automatically based on the active working period.

Behaviour of Analyses Configured with Variable Periods

Launching an Analysis from Viareport Lease

When you launch Web Analyzer directly from a contract or from the contract repository, the columns displaying the Period-End Closing Date dimension are automatically populated with the variable periods linked to the selected working period.

Automatic Update After Working Period Change

When the working period is updated, any analysis configured with variable periods is automatically restarted and updated to reflect the new period values.
